Flower Spine Tattoo Ideas: FAQ

How long should a flower spine tattoo be?

Most spine flowers run 6 to 25 cm, from between the shoulder blades down. A 6 to 8 cm stem sits at the top of the spine; a 10 to 13 cm design covers more of the back. The designs on this page are 6 to 13.2 cm long.

Where does a spine tattoo start?

Usually at the base of the neck or between the shoulder blades. Ask someone to place it for you, check that it runs straight along the spine, and look at it with your back straight and bent.

Can I test a tattoo before getting it?

Yes. A temporary tattoo that looks like real ink lets you live with the design for 10 to 14 days (7 to 10 on fingers). It goes on in about 5 minutes and the color develops over 24 to 36 hours, so you see the real size and placement before you book an artist.

Can you put a temporary tattoo on your own spine?

Not easily: the spine is hard to reach and to see. Ask someone to press the damp cloth over the whole paper for you, then let it dry for 10 to 15 minutes without rubbing.
