Fox Tattoo Idea? Try It for 2 Weeks
Fox Tattoo Idea? Try It for 2 Weeks
Lasts 10–14 days
A fox tattoo stands for intelligence, cleverness and adaptability: the fox always finds a way out. It also hints at intuition and a free, independent spirit. In Japan, the kitsune adds magic and wisdom. In fine line, this little fox looks soft and sharp at the same time.
At InkToday, this fox is 1.6 x 1.7 in and lasts 10–14 days, so you can wear it on your forearm or ankle before you book a real tattoo.
Size: 1.6 x 1.7 in (4 x 4.4 cm) · Best placement: forearm, wrist or ankle

What's in the kit?
Every InkToday tattoo ships in its protective sleeve, with an application guide to help you put it on.
How do I apply my tattoo?
Our tattoos are painless and very easy to apply yourself – it only takes a few simple steps.
Follow the application guide supplied with your tattoo, or watch our video tutorial here.
Once applied, the ink reacts with the proteins and the keratin in your skin, and darkens within 24 to 36 hours.
Your tattoo then stays visible for 10 to 14 days depending on where you apply it on your body, before fading away naturally.
Colour and appearance
Unlike most temporary tattoos, INKTODAY ink bonds to the surface of your skin instead of simply sitting on top of it.
Once applied, the ink reacts with the proteins and the keratin in your skin, and darkens within 24 to 36 hours.
The final result looks like a real tattoo, in a deep blue-black colour.
How long does the tattoo last?
INKTODAY tattoos are designed to fade within 10 to 14 days.
How long they last depends on where you apply them, on your daily activities and on how hydrated your skin is.
The ink fades gradually as your skin renews itself naturally.
Here is an estimate of how long they hold, area by area:
🦵 Leg: day 1 to 5 (very dark colour), then day 6 to 12 (colour fading).
🦶 Foot: day 1 to 8 (very dark colour), then day 9 to 14 (colour fading).
🦵 Knee: day 1 to 6 (very dark colour), then day 7 to 12 (colour fading).
💪 Forearm: day 1 to 6 (very dark colour), then day 7 to 12 (colour fading).

Why try it before the real one
- See if 1.6 x 1.7 in is the right size where you want it (forearm, wrist…).
- Watch how it looks on your skin, day after day.
- Love it? Show it to your tattoo artist. Not sure? Try another design next month.
What a fox tattoo means
The fox is often linked to cleverness, curiosity and the ability to adapt. A fox with its tail curled around it can also suggest calm and being comfortable in your own space.
How to apply
- Clean and dry the skin.
- Press the tattoo on firmly.
- Peel off the backing.
- Let it develop: the ink darkens over 24–36 hours.
InkToday makes plant-based semi-permanent tattoos that develop on the skin over 24–36 hours, look like real ink and last 10–14 days, so you can try a tattoo design before getting it for real.
Meaning
Foxes in general have the reputation of tricksters in traditional European folklore, and Reynard, a red fox and trickster figure, is the hero of a whole cycle of tales. In Japan, kitsune are ascribed intelligence and magical or supernatural powers, especially long-living foxes, and can have as many as nine tails. Either way, the fox wins with its mind, not its size.

FAQ
What do fox spirits represent?
Fox spirits, like the Japanese kitsune, represent intelligence, magic and transformation. In folklore, they can change shape, protect or trick people, and some serve as messengers of the god Inari. The older and wiser a kitsune gets, the more tails it grows, up to nine. As a tattoo, a fox spirit adds a touch of mystery to the classic clever fox.
What is the most powerful fox spirit?
In Japanese and Chinese folklore, the nine-tailed fox is the most powerful fox spirit. A kitsune gains tails as it grows older and wiser, and nine is the highest number in the tales. It is linked to great wisdom and strong magical powers, sometimes kind, sometimes dangerous. A small fine line fox keeps things simpler, but carries the same clever spirit.
What's the most popular animal tattoo?
Some of the most popular animal tattoos are the lion, the wolf, the snake, the butterfly, the bird, the cat and the fox. Each one carries a clear trait: strength, loyalty, change, freedom or wit. The fox stands out for its cleverness and its pretty shape, even at a small size. Pick the animal whose story fits yours, then try it on.
What is a fox when referring to a woman?
In casual English, calling a woman a fox means she is attractive, often with a hint of charm and confidence. The word foxy carries the same idea. It comes from the image of the fox as sleek, clever and a little mysterious. A fox tattoo on a woman can play on that, mixing beauty with a sharp, independent mind.
