What's in the kit?
Every InkToday tattoo ships in its protective sleeve, with an application guide to help you put it on.
How do I apply my tattoo?
Our tattoos are painless and very easy to apply yourself – it only takes a few simple steps.
Follow the application guide supplied with your tattoo, or watch our video tutorial here.
Once applied, the ink reacts with the proteins and the keratin in your skin, and darkens within 24 to 36 hours.
Your tattoo then stays visible for 10 to 14 days depending on where you apply it on your body, before fading away naturally.
Colour and appearance
Unlike most temporary tattoos, INKTODAY ink bonds to the surface of your skin instead of simply sitting on top of it.
Once applied, the ink reacts with the proteins and the keratin in your skin, and darkens within 24 to 36 hours.
The final result looks like a real tattoo, in a deep blue-black colour.
How long does the tattoo last?
INKTODAY tattoos are designed to fade within 10 to 14 days.
How long they last depends on where you apply them, on your daily activities and on how hydrated your skin is.
The ink fades gradually as your skin renews itself naturally.
Here is an estimate of how long they hold, area by area:
🦵 Leg: day 1 to 5 (very dark colour), then day 6 to 12 (colour fading).
🦶 Foot: day 1 to 8 (very dark colour), then day 9 to 14 (colour fading).
🦵 Knee: day 1 to 6 (very dark colour), then day 7 to 12 (colour fading).

Maori temporary tattoo arm: test the tribal armband before committing
The Maori armband is one of the most searched tattoo designs in France and across Europe. Geometric, powerful, and loaded with meaning, Maori tattoos fascinate well beyond Polynesia. But a permanent Maori tattoo on the forearm costs far more in a specialist studio, often requiring 2 to 4 hours of work. Before committing for life, wearing a temporary Maori tattoo for 10 to 14 days on your arm is the only real way to know whether the design, size and placement are right for you.
Meaning of the Maori motif on the arm
In Polynesian tradition, arm tattoos (especially all-around armbands) were worn by Maori warriors to signify their rank, bravery and achievements. Each geometric element (koru spirals, interlocking patterns, shark teeth) tells a personal story. Today, the tribal Maori style is embraced far beyond New Zealand. For non-Maori people who want to explore this style without appropriating the sacred Ta Moko, Kirituhi (an open skin art tradition) offers a respectful path. A temporary Maori tattoo is exactly the right tool to test this aesthetic before committing permanently.
Where to place a temporary Maori armband?
The 18 x 5 cm armband format on this sheet is designed to encircle the full arm (forearm, biceps or widened wrist). Most popular placements:
- Forearm: visible, easy to apply solo, ideal for testing a realistic sleeve effect
- Biceps: warrior style, great for summer or a festival
- Upper arm / shoulder: positioned across the shoulder for a half-sleeve effect
Perfect occasions for a temporary Maori armband
- Music or surf festival: waterproof, sweat-resistant, lasts the whole weekend
- Beach holiday: shower and seawater proof, won't wash off while swimming
- Bachelorette party or themed event: quick group application, looks spectacular in photos
- Cosplay and conventions: ultra-realistic Polynesian warrior style
- Test before a permanent tattoo: the real number-one reason, see if the design suits you before paying a studio by the hour

FAQ
What does a Maori tattoo on the arm mean?
In Polynesian tradition, the Maori armband symbolises rank, strength and achievements. Each geometric motif (koru, shark teeth, interlocking patterns) carries specific meanings related to protection, fertility or courage.
How long does a temporary tattoo last?
This temporary Maori tattoo lasts 10 to 14 days on most skin types. Wear time varies by placement (the forearm fades slightly faster than the upper arm), skin hydration and daily friction.
Can I get a Maori tattoo if I am not Maori?
Ta Moko (traditional Maori facial tattoo) is reserved for people of Maori descent. However, Kirituhi is an open Maori-inspired style available to everyone, using tribal motifs without the sacred ancestral connections. Temporary Maori tattoos let you explore this aesthetic freely and respectfully.
What are the risks of a temporary tattoo?
The only documented risks involve black henna (PPD), which can cause severe eczema. This temporary tattoo contains no black henna: it uses vegan ink compliant with EU cosmetic norms, with no known allergens. Apply to healthy skin only, avoiding cuts or irritation.
Is a Maori tattoo permanent?
Traditional Ta Moko is permanent. This product is a temporary tattoo: it sits on the skin surface with no needles, fades naturally in 10 to 14 days, and is removed in seconds with oil. Zero pain, zero commitment, zero scarring.
What is the price of a Maori temporary tattoo vs a permanent one?
See the price of this temporary armband on this page. A permanent Maori forearm tattoo costs far more, depending on the studio and work time (usually 2 to 4 hours).
