What's in the kit?
Every InkToday tattoo ships in its protective sleeve, with an application guide to help you put it on.
How do I apply my tattoo?
Our tattoos are painless and very easy to apply yourself – it only takes a few simple steps.
Follow the application guide supplied with your tattoo, or watch our video tutorial here.
Once applied, the ink reacts with the proteins and the keratin in your skin, and darkens within 24 to 36 hours.
Your tattoo then stays visible for 10 to 14 days depending on where you apply it on your body, before fading away naturally.
Colour and appearance
Unlike most temporary tattoos, INKTODAY ink bonds to the surface of your skin instead of simply sitting on top of it.
Once applied, the ink reacts with the proteins and the keratin in your skin, and darkens within 24 to 36 hours.
The final result looks like a real tattoo, in a deep blue-black colour.
How long does the tattoo last?
INKTODAY tattoos are designed to fade within 10 to 14 days.
How long they last depends on where you apply them, on your daily activities and on how hydrated your skin is.
The ink fades gradually as your skin renews itself naturally.
Here is an estimate of how long they hold, area by area:
🦵 Leg: day 1 to 5 (very dark colour), then day 6 to 12 (colour fading).
🦶 Foot: day 1 to 8 (very dark colour), then day 9 to 14 (colour fading).
🦵 Knee: day 1 to 6 (very dark colour), then day 7 to 12 (colour fading).
💪 Forearm: day 1 to 6 (very dark colour), then day 7 to 12 (colour fading).
💪 Shoulder: day 1 to 7 (very dark colour), then day 8 to 14 (colour fading).
💪 Upper arm: day 1 to 7 (very dark colour), then day 8 to 14 (colour fading).
✋ Hand: day 1 to 4 (very dark colour), then day 5 to 8 (colour fading).

Our unique formula lets our INKTODAY tattoos last longer while giving a deeper, blacker colour.

Temporary smiley tattoo: test the design on your finger before committing
The smiley is one of the most requested finger tattoo designs. Simple, universal, full of personality, it works across styles and age groups. But a permanent smiley tattoo on the finger is a long-term decision: fingers fade fast, touch-ups are frequent, and the placement has to be exactly right. A temporary smiley tattoo solves the problem, real placement, real size, real look, zero commitment.
Our "Fun Smiley" design measures 5x5 cm, the right size for a knuckle, the back of the hand, or the inner wrist. It applies in 5 minutes, holds for 10 to 14 days through showers and summer heat, and comes off cleanly with vegetable oil. A permanent finger tattoo costs far more.
Where to place a temporary smiley tattoo?
Most popular spots: the index finger, the ring finger, the back of the hand, or the inner wrist. Some wear it behind the ear or on the shoulder for a more subtle effect. The 5x5 cm format fits all these placements without overflowing.
When to wear a temporary smiley tattoo?
The smiley is the top choice for music festivals (visible in a crowd), bachelorette weekends (coordinated look for the whole group), travel (light, no customs issues), and content creation. It also works as an original gift idea before an event, order for the whole group, apply together on the day.
FAQ temporary smiley tattoo
How long does a temporary smiley tattoo last?
10 to 14 days depending on your skin, your skincare routine, and friction. Low-friction zones (inner wrist, shoulder) last longest. Fingers, which get more wear, typically hold 5-8 days.
Is the temporary smiley tattoo waterproof?
Yes. It holds through showers, swimming, and sweat. Avoid scrubbing the tattooed area directly with a washcloth to maximise wear time.
How do I remove a temporary smiley tattoo?
Apply vegetable oil (olive, coconut, or sweet almond) to the design, let it sit for 1 minute, then rub gently with a cotton pad. It comes off clean with no residue.
Is the ink safe for skin?
Yes. Our ink is vegan, free of PPD and black henna, and compliant with EU cosmetic standards. Suitable for sensitive skin, adults and children alike.
Can I put a smiley tattoo on my finger?
Absolutely. The 5x5 cm size is perfect for a knuckle or the back of the hand. Expect a slightly shorter wear time on fingers (5-8 days) than on less active skin areas.
Is this a good idea for a bachelorette party or festival?
It's one of the most popular uses. Easy to coordinate for a group, eye-catching, fun, and completely hassle-free. Order for everyone and apply together on the morning of the event.
