What's in the kit?
Every InkToday tattoo ships in its protective sleeve, with an application guide to help you put it on.
How do I apply my tattoo?
Our tattoos are painless and very easy to apply yourself – it only takes a few simple steps.
Follow the application guide supplied with your tattoo, or watch our video tutorial here.
Once applied, the ink reacts with the proteins and the keratin in your skin, and darkens within 24 to 36 hours.
Your tattoo then stays visible for 10 to 14 days depending on where you apply it on your body, before fading away naturally.
Colour and appearance
Unlike most temporary tattoos, INKTODAY ink bonds to the surface of your skin instead of simply sitting on top of it.
Once applied, the ink reacts with the proteins and the keratin in your skin, and darkens within 24 to 36 hours.
The final result looks like a real tattoo, in a deep blue-black colour.
How long does the tattoo last?
INKTODAY tattoos are designed to fade within 10 to 14 days.
How long they last depends on where you apply them, on your daily activities and on how hydrated your skin is.
The ink fades gradually as your skin renews itself naturally.
Here is an estimate of how long they hold, area by area:
🦵 Leg: day 1 to 5 (very dark colour), then day 6 to 12 (colour fading).
🦶 Foot: day 1 to 8 (very dark colour), then day 9 to 14 (colour fading).
🦵 Knee: day 1 to 6 (very dark colour), then day 7 to 12 (colour fading).
💪 Forearm: day 1 to 6 (very dark colour), then day 7 to 12 (colour fading).
💪 Shoulder: day 1 to 7 (very dark colour), then day 8 to 14 (colour fading).

InkToday ink: how we designed it
We developed our InkToday formula drawing on the natural, ancestral practices of tribes who used plant sap to mark their skin.
Our unique formula lets our INKTODAY tattoos last longer while giving a deeper, blacker colour.
Water-resistant and incredibly realistic, our tattoos offer an authentic, long-lasting experience.

Temporary barcode tattoo: actually lasts 10 to 14 days
The InkToday barcode tattoo lasts 10 to 14 days on skin, thanks to a water-transfer ink system. That's up to twice as long as most temporary tattoos sold in France. The 5 x 5 cm format fits all discreet placements: wrist, neck, forearm, ankle. Application takes under a minute.
Unlike stencils that require separate ink, this tattoo applies directly to clean, dry skin. The result is sharp, with barcode lines that remain precise and readable.
What does a barcode tattoo mean?
A barcode on skin is a loaded symbol: it references identity in a digital society, the serialisation of the individual, or simply a very recognisable urban aesthetic. Popularised by cyberpunk culture and films like Prison Break, it remains one of the most requested designs for forearms and the back of the neck.
Some wear the barcode as an artistic statement, others to test placement before going permanent. A temporary tattoo allows both, risk-free.
How do you apply and remove this temporary tattoo?
Application: clean and dry your skin, place the tattoo face-down on the area, dampen the back with a wet sponge for 30 seconds, then peel off the protective film. The design is instantly visible. Avoid direct soap contact on the area for the first few hours.
Removal: adhesive tape or baby oil is all you need. The tattoo naturally fades over 10 to 14 days as the skin sheds.
Frequently asked questions about the barcode tattoo
Is the barcode tattoo scannable?
No. This temporary barcode tattoo is a decorative motif: its proportions do not match an active EAN or UPC standard. It cannot be read by a checkout scanner. If you want a functional QR code on skin, you need a custom print with dimensions adapted to the scanner being used.
How long does the InkToday barcode tattoo last?
The tattoo lasts 10 to 14 days depending on the body area and your routine. Low-friction areas (neck, shoulder, back) last longer. High-friction zones (wrist, ankle) typically hold for 8 to 12 days. Avoiding prolonged baths in the first 48 hours extends wear time.
What is the size of the barcode tattoo?
The format is 5 x 5 cm. This is an ideal size for a discreet yet visible placement: the inner wrist, the inner forearm, the back of the neck, or the ankle. The design is made to stay sharp and legible at these proportions.
Does the barcode tattoo suit all skin tones?
Yes. The black ink used contrasts on all skin tones. The formula has been dermatologically tested and does not contain common sensitising substances. On very reactive skin, test for a few hours on a discreet area before full application.
Can you put the barcode tattoo anywhere on the body?
The tattoo applies to most flat surfaces: wrist, forearm, neck, shoulder, chest, ankle. Avoid arterial areas (inner elbow, inner knee) and very curved surfaces where the application film distorts. The back of the neck and forearm give the best results with this 5 x 5 cm format.
Does applying a temporary barcode tattoo hurt?
Not at all. Application requires no needles, no heat, no harsh chemicals. You dampen the back of the tattoo with a wet sponge, hold it against your skin for 30 seconds, then peel off the film. Zero pain, zero special equipment.
