What's in the kit?
Every InkToday tattoo ships in its protective sleeve, with an application guide to help you put it on.
How do I apply my tattoo?
Our tattoos are painless and very easy to apply yourself – it only takes a few simple steps.
Follow the application guide supplied with your tattoo, or watch our video tutorial here.
Once applied, the ink reacts with the proteins and the keratin in your skin, and darkens within 24 to 36 hours.
Your tattoo then stays visible for 10 to 14 days depending on where you apply it on your body, before fading away naturally.
Colour and appearance
Unlike most temporary tattoos, INKTODAY ink bonds to the surface of your skin instead of simply sitting on top of it.
Once applied, the ink reacts with the proteins and the keratin in your skin, and darkens within 24 to 36 hours.
The final result looks like a real tattoo, in a deep blue-black colour.
How long does the tattoo last?
INKTODAY tattoos are designed to fade within 10 to 14 days.
How long they last depends on where you apply them, on your daily activities and on how hydrated your skin is.
The ink fades gradually as your skin renews itself naturally.
Here is an estimate of how long they hold, area by area:
🦵 Leg: day 1 to 5 (very dark colour), then day 6 to 12 (colour fading).
🦶 Foot: day 1 to 8 (very dark colour), then day 9 to 14 (colour fading).
🦵 Knee: day 1 to 6 (very dark colour), then day 7 to 12 (colour fading).
💪 Forearm: day 1 to 6 (very dark colour), then day 7 to 12 (colour fading).

How long does a playing card temporary tattoo last?
An InkToday playing card temporary tattoo lasts 10 to 14 days depending on your skin type and placement. Hold is best on low-friction areas like the wrist, forearm or ankle. Moisturising the skin thoroughly before application keeps the design sharp and vibrant until the end.
The design comes off easily with oil or makeup remover, leaving no mark or residue on the skin.
Why choose a playing card tattoo instead of a permanent one?
A playing card tattoo carries deep symbolism but is technically demanding and costly to ink permanently. The four suits (hearts, spades, diamonds, clubs) require precise line work and a significant studio budget. The temporary option lets you validate the design, placement and size before any lifelong commitment.
It is also the perfect choice for an event, a poker night, or simply testing a style before deciding.
Is the ink in the playing card temporary tattoo safe for skin?
InkToday ink is EU-certified, vegan and dermatologically tested. It contains no parabens, heavy metals or aggressive synthetic dyes. The tattoo sits on the surface of the epidermis with no needle, no piercing and no contact with the dermis.
For very sensitive skin, a patch test on a small area is always recommended before full application.
Frequently asked questions about the playing card tattoo
What is the meaning of a playing card tattoo?
Each suit carries its own symbolism: hearts represent emotion and the clergy in medieval iconography, spades stand for justice and courage, diamonds evoke wealth and trade, clubs are linked to fertility and the working of the land. A tattoo featuring all four suits often expresses balance, controlled chance, or a love of cards as a way of life.
Where should I place a playing card tattoo for the best result?
The 5.2 x 5.2 cm size works especially well on the wrist, forearm, ankle or instep. These flat areas bring out the fine details of the design. Avoid joints or very hairy areas where adhesion will be lower and wear time shorter.
How do I apply the playing card temporary tattoo without bubbles or creases?
Clean and dry the area thoroughly before application. Place the tattoo printed side down onto the skin, press a damp sponge over it for 30 seconds, then gently peel off the backing. Wait 60 seconds before touching the design. Avoid water for the first two hours to maximise adhesion.
Is the playing card tattoo waterproof?
Yes, the InkToday temporary tattoo is water-resistant once properly applied and dried. It holds through daily showers and moderate water exposure. Extended soaking or bath oil can speed up fading. Pat the area dry gently after each contact with water to maximise wear time.
Can I customise the size of the 4 playing card tattoo?
The InkToday design comes in a fixed 5.2 x 5.2 cm format, which suits most body placements. If you prefer a subtler look, you can trim around the motif before applying. A larger format is not available for this particular design.
How do I remove the playing card temporary tattoo cleanly?
Apply a few drops of vegetable oil (olive oil, coconut oil or baby oil) onto the design and leave for two minutes. Rub gently with a cotton pad or soft cloth until the tattoo has fully disappeared. Rinse with warm water. The result is immediate, with no irritation or colour residue left on the skin.
