How does a custom semi-permanent tattoo work?
You send a design, it is redrawn for line weight, printed on a transfer film and shipped. You apply it with water, peel the backing after 60 seconds, and leave the skin alone. The ink looks pale for the first day, darkens over 24 to 36 hours, then reads as real ink for 10 to 14 days.
The mechanism is what separates this from a party sticker. A decal deposits pigment under a polymer varnish that sits on top of the skin - it shines, it cracks at the elbow, and it is gone in two or three days. A plant-based semi-permanent ink has no varnish: the pigment settles into the outer layer of the epidermis and disappears only as those cells renew. That is why the finish is matte and why the wear window is measured in weeks rather than days.

What artwork works as a semi-permanent tattoo - and what does not
Black line work with clear separation between elements reproduces faithfully. Fine grey shading, photographic gradients and lines thinner than about 1 mm do not: the ink spreads very slightly as it develops, so thin strokes close up and grey washes turn into a flat patch.
This is the part most people get wrong, and it is the difference between a proof you approve and a piece you regret. The three rules below are not preferences, they are consequences of how the ink behaves on living skin. We apply them when we redraw your file, and we will tell you before printing if a design cannot survive them.

A photograph is the hardest case. A face or a pet photo can be converted, but only by reducing it to line work first - the result is a drawing of the photo, not the photo. If that is what you want, say so in the order notes and we will send the line version for approval before printing.

Is there a custom semi-permanent tattoo that lasts 6 months?
No. No topical ink lasts six months, because the outer layer of the skin renews roughly every two to four weeks and takes the pigment with it. Any product advertising three, six or twelve months is either measuring shelf life, or making a claim the skin cannot deliver.
We take this seriously because it is the single most common disappointment in the category. The honest ceiling for a plant-based semi-permanent ink is about two weeks, and the range is real: 10 days on a hand or an inner wrist, 14 on a shoulder blade or an outer calf. What shortens it is friction, not time - a waistband, a watch strap or repeated hand-washing will halve the life of a design. Long lasting custom temporary tattoos for adults: what the ink can do
These are catalogue designs, not custom orders, but they are printed in the same ink and show the range your own artwork has to work within - from a single minimal stroke to solid black tribal fill. This is adult line work, not party stickers, and it is what long lasting means in practice: 10 to 14 days, not two. Prices from 10 €.
Look at what the ink does at each extreme. The minimalist lightning bolt is close to the thinnest stroke the process holds cleanly; the Maori arm band is the densest black it will lay down without pooling. Will it survive swimming and showers?
After the 24-to-36-hour development window, yes. Water will not lift it. Friction will: fabric, watch straps and hand-washing are what shorten a design from fourteen days to eight.
Can I reorder the same custom design later?
Yes. The redrawn file is kept, so a repeat order does not go through preparation again.
Do custom designs show up on darker skin tones?
Black line work does, and it is the reason we print in a true deep black rather than a blue-black. Fine grey detail has less contrast to work with, so we favour solid line over shading on deeper tones.
